HENDERSON – Amy Holman executed a penalty kick and Jaclyn Friday gave Pine Tree an insurance goal as the Lady Pirates wrapped up the District 16-4A soccer title with a 2-0 win here Friday night at Lion Stadium.

The victory gave Pine Tree an unblemished 10-0 run through the district as the Lady Pirates move on to the playoffs with an impressive 18-3-3 season record.

Henderson finishes district play with an 8-2 record, both losses coming to the Lady Pirates.

‘‘It was a well-played, challenging match for us,'' said Pine Tree coach Daniel Rich. ‘‘We had a strong defensive effort. I am very proud of this season and of the girls.''

Holman's penalty kick came 21 minutes into the match. Friday's goal, with five minutes left in the first half, came off an assist from Georgina Cabrera. Despite the two goals, Henderson outshot Pine Tree 17-14 for the match.

Coming up big in goal for the Lady Pirates was goalkeeper Shelli Small, who was called upon to make 11 saves. Her Henderson counterpart, Kim Kerry, had a solid nine-save effort.

Other defensive standouts for Pine Tree were Berri Primo, Hayley Grigrich, Sheila Nafrady and Eurie DeRoy.

With the district championship, the Lady Pirates earn a first-round bye in the playoffs. They are tentatively set to play a warm-up game Thursday against Whitehouse.

In the junior varsity game, Pine Tree came out on top of Henderson by the same 2-0 score.
