Lady Pirates go 1-1-1 in tourney
GEORGETOWN – The Pine Tree Lady Pirates closed out the non-district portion of their schedule by going 1-1-1 here this weekend in the Lady Governor's Cup soccer tournament at Georgetown High School.
The Lady Pirates opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over El Paso Riverside Friday, then fell to No. 9 ranked Friendswood (1-0) and tied unbeaten Wichita Falls (1-1) on Saturday.
Wichita Falls, which moved to 9-0-2, won the pool and advanced in the tournament.
Pine Tree got an early goal from Anne Lundbey and two goals from Jaclyn Friday in the 3-0 win over El Paso Riverside. Ashley Johnson assisted on Lundbey's goal, and Carolyn Letherman assisted on both of Friday's goals. Shelli Small got the shutout in goal for PT.
After the 1-0 loss to Friendswood, Pine Tree battled Wichita Falls to a 1-1 deadlock. Friday had the lone goal – her 10th of the year – and Georgina Cabrera had the assist.
Pine Tree, now 7-3-2 on the year, will open District 16-4A play Friday at home against Lufkin Hudson.
