PT girls to play for third

HIGHLAND PARK – The Pine Tree Lady Pirates notched two wins and suffered a lone loss and will play today for third place in the Highland Park Tournament.

The Lady Pirates lost big to host Highland Park in the tournament opener, 7-1, getting a goal from Nancy Hemmen.

In their second match, the Lady Pirates knocked off Brenham 1-0 on a first-half goal by Ashley Johnson. Jaclyn Friday provided the assist.

The Pine Tree offense came alive against Dallas Hillcrest to claim a 5-0 win. Friday scored a pair of goals and had her second assist of the tournament. Johnson scored her second goal of the tournament. Jessica Allen scored on a free kick, and Julie Benyard also hit the back of the net.

Tiffany Gee had two assists and Amy Holman one.

Pine Tree, 5-2-1 on the season, will face Nederland at 1 p.m. today for third place.
