Jaclyn Friday buried a free kick from 30 yards out in the second half as the Pine Tree Lady Pirates salvaged a 1-1 tie with Mesquite Poteet on Tuesday.

Pine Tree moves to 3-1-1 on the season, while Poteet is now 4-0-1.

Stephanie Lynch and Sherri Small combined for five saves in goal for Pine Tree, which was outshot 8-7 by Poteet. Carolyn Leatherman was a defensive standout, while the Lady Pirates got solid midfield play from Georgina Cabrera.

Pine Tree opens play in the Highland Park Tournament on Thursday.

The Pine Tree junior varsity fell to Texas High, 1-0.
